Prevention is naturally the best way to avoid mold growth in your home. Unfortunately, some places in the home are always more damp due to activities that create steam build-up and constant moisture. Add in warm temperature and plentiful nutrients, and you have the perfect home for a mold colony to thrive.
These rooms, such as the bathroom, kitchen, and laundry room, frequently have a recurring problem with mold. Contributing to the problem are everyday activities such as:
- Washing dishes
- Doing Laundry
- Cleaning and Sanitizing
- Use of Vaporizers and Humidifiers
Preventing and controlling mold in these areas can be accomplished by providing better ventilation when these activities are occurring. Simple steps such as running a properly vented bathroom fan, or opening a window will help allow the excess steam to leave the area. In the kitchen, using a vent hood fan when cooking to draw the steam from the area. The steam must be vented outdoors and not into the walls, ceiling, or attic.
In addition to improving ventilation, more frequent and intensive cleaning will help mold growth by limiting the amount of nutrients that are available. And, catching mold growth early before it gets a chance to spread is ideal.
